About Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki Field Trips
Field trips are available for 3rd grade and up from December through the end of April. Registration for field trips begins in November.
This program is tied to current Arizona State Academic Standards and is an excellent addition for meeting 3rd and 4th grade Social Studies Standards. Students map out excavation units, examine artifacts, take a tour, learn about diet and life in the desert, and experience the thrill of hunting for fake rabbits using the same techniques as the ancestral Sonoran Desert dwellers!
About Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki
Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki is an ancient treasure in modern Mesa and is part of the Arizona Museum of Natural History. Once a bustling civic center, this prehistoric archaeological site features one of the last remaining platform mounds surrounded by a plaza, which was built by the ancestral Sonoran Desert dwellers between AD1100 and 1450. Come and explore a unique part of Mesa’s history, enjoy the walking trails, and have an outdoor adventure with us today!
Availability and Pricing
Field trips are available Wednesday-Friday from December through the end of April.
Combined field trip to AZMNH & Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki - $10 per person*
*Pricing options are available for Title 1 schools.

Minimum 15 paying guests
Maximum 150 students
Field Trip Schedules
Field trip registration is now open.
Group of 75 or fewer students
- 10am – 11:30 educator led program at Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki
- 11:30am – 12pm lunch at Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki
- 12pm – 1:30pm self-guided exploration at AZMNH
Group of 76+ students
- 10am – 11:30am ½ at Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki and ½ at AZMNH
- 11:30am – 12pm ALL eat lunch at Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va’aki
- 12pm – 1:30pm groups switch locations for the afternoon
